Raymond Dale Davidson

Raymond Dale Davidson, 87, of Sheffield, Pa. passed away peacefully at his home late Friday evening, July 17, 2020.

He was born on April 6, 1933 to Samuel Dale Davidson and Mary Gray Davidson. Ray attended Mars High School in Butler County. He went on to serve his county in the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Occupation Medal as well as the National Defense Medal.

He married the love of his life Aileen Florence Theiss on July 9, 1955. Together they raised five wonderful children.

Ray retired from AllTell as a switch operator. He could also be found in Sheffield fixing people’s TV sets. Ray was a kind and gentle man who always had a smile for everyone. He was a man of God with great faith. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. He was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church.

He was aa active member of the Sheffield Vets Club where he was past commander and served as chaplain for many years. He was a member of the Sheffield Lions Club and served as past president. He was also a member of the Rotary and a life time member of the Sheffield Rod & Gun Club. He was a member of the Masonic Order of Youngsville where he served as past Master, was a past member of the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department as well as an ambulance driver. He was faithful in delivering meals on wheels. Ray was a member of the Sheffield Kitchen Band and also served as Johnny Appleseed for the annual Johnny Appleseed festival.

Ray was meticulous about his yard. In Ray’s younger years he loved playing softball and played for Goldthwaite Lumber Company and Sheffield Sports Boosters. He was a great team mate who was referred to by the other players as champ. Ray was well known for his knuckle ball. He played the position of third base. Ray was very faithful in attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and other school activities.

Left behind to cherish Ray’s memory are his children Jill and Kenneth Sheldon, Cheryl (late John) Bonavita, Roger and Kathleen Davidson, Patrick and Brenda Davidson, and Jodie Schmader. He is also survived by grandchildren Gywn Oswalt (Reese Stoltz), David and Kristen Sheldon, Rhiannon Sheldon, and Nicole Gray, Saleena & Kerryn Nearing, Christopher Bonavita, Nicholas Bonavita, Elyssa, Ian, Courtney, Ashley and Eliza Davidson, and Luke Davidson, and Allison Schmader. He is further survived by great grandchildren James Oswalt, Samantha & Storm Stolz, Anabel & Isaac Sheldon, Dominic Ecklund, Lionel Chapel, Gypsy Rose Sheldon, Lincoln & Killian Gray, Quinn and Ellis Nearing, Griffen & Kinley Davdson.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Aileen on February 12, 2009 and granddaughter Abigail Schmader on February 20, 2018.

Ray’s family will welcome family and friends on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 from 4-7 p.m. at the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield. The Sheffield Fire Department will conduct a service at 7 p.m. at the funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Sheffield VFW pavilion on Austin Hill Road Sheffield. Everyone please meet there. The service will be officiated by Reverend Terry Teluch. Burial will be at the Sheffield Cemetery will full military honors presented by the Sheffield VFW Honor Guard. Please observe Covid-19 recommendations for masks and social distancing when attending funeral events for Raymond D. Davidson.
