Nancy J. Stokes

Born on July 13, 1944, In Sheffield, PA, she was the daughter of Leola and Earnest E. Belcher, Sr., also of Sheffield, PA. Nancy graduated from Sheffield Area High School in 1964. On October 4, 1969, she married James Nathan Stokes, from Harrisville, PA. They were married at the First Church of God, in Warren, PA. James and Nancy bought a home in Warren, where they lived and raised one daughter, Julie Ann Stokes.

Growing up, Nancy was known to have a beautiful singing voice and sang in the choir at school. As a mother, she sang to her young daughter and made sure there was always music in the house, whether it was by playing vinyl records on the record player or watching Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals on television. As a family, the three would occasionally attend a summer concert at the Chautauqua Amphitheater, in Chautauqua, NY, and enjoyed performances by famous singer including Pearl Bailey, Bobby Vinton, John Denver, and Air Supply.

Nancy was also very creative and artistic. She would decorate her own purses, painted several paintings, and spent endless hours making crewel and needlepoint wall hangings. She also created several of her daughter’s Halloween costumes. Nancy loved reading books and she loved flowers and floral designs. She passed her love for reading, music, creativity, and floral designs onto her daughter.

Nancy has been a resident of the Warren Manor Nursing Home since 2014. She was preceded in death by an infant brother Jimmy Belcher, her parents, and her husband of 44 years. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Ann StokesWooster, of Aberdeen, NC; a sister, Karen Moldovan, of Florida; and three brothers, Earl Belcher, Jr., of Rome, PA; Dick Belcher, of Warren, PA; and another brother Jack Belcher.
