Edwin B. Sandberg

Edwin B. Sandberg, 84, of 1578 Manchester Rd, Jamestown, passed away Friday (May 31, 2019) at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing from Metastatic Myeloma cancer and Stage 4 Renal failure.

He was born June 6, 1934 in Frewsburg, the son of Gunnard and Ethel Nelson Sandberg.

Before retiring, he had been employed for fortyfour years at MRC/SKF.

He was a sixtytwo year member of the Kiantone Independent Fire Dept. where he served as Chief for fifteen years, assistant chief for three years, vice president for four years, and director for six years. Ed was a member of the Southern Chautauqua County Club Associates. In October of 2003 he was voted in as district master at the district convention in Albany, He was also a member of Sven Lodge # 296 in Erie, the Scandinavian Swedish Foundation, and life member of the Chautauqua Co. Fire Chiefs Assoc. where he served as president. He was a life member of Fireman’s Assoc. of the state of New York, and a life member of the Chautauqua Co. Fireman’s Fraternity, Inc.

He was involved with the Thule Lodge# 127 where he was chairman for four years, vice chairman for two years, and director for six years.

On May 17, 2018 he was awarded the hometown hero at the fifteenth annual breakfast for his dedicated service to the community.

The Norden Club sponsored the King Carl XVI Gustafson and Queen Silvia of Sweden who presented Edwin and Donna Sandberg a certificate of appreciation on October 22, 2011.

He was awarded two proclamations from Senator Catherine Young for his years of service at the Kiantone Independent Fire Dept. and Southwest Assoc. of volunteer Firemen.

Ed is survived by his children: Pamela (Dean) Morningstar of Lander, PA, Wendy (Emory) Heitman of Kiantone, Karen (Neil Carlson) Zickgraft and Dawn (Pete) Scarsone of Jamestown, Darlene Morrison of Cherry Creek, Arlene (Robert) Olmstead of Byron, NY, and Frank (Patty) Hyer of Ocala, FL., many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; a brother, Robert Sandberg of Frewsburg, and two sisters: Helen Shoup and Martha (Don) Dove of Frewsburg.

He was predeceased by his wife Donna Sandberg and a brother Lawrence Sandberg.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday June 10, 2019 at the Kiantone Independent Fire Dept.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Kiantone Fire Dept. where a luncheon will follow and visitation again from 2 to 5:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be in Fentonville Cemetery, Frewsburg.

The Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg is handling arrangements.

The family wishes memorials be made to the Kiantone Independent Fire Department.
