Jean Hayes

Jean (Holsinger) Hayes, age 75, passed on December 24, 2018. She was born to Leonard R. Holsinger, Jr., and Frances (Sairs) Holsinger in Sewickley, PA on April 12, 1943.

Jean graduated from Quaker Valley High School in 1961, where she soloed as a soprano in the high school chorus, as well as at the Shields Presbyterian Church. After graduation, Jean majored in English at Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon), where she was also a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She was also a member of the Colonel Henry Bouquet chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was employed by the Quaker Valley Junior High School in Sewickley. She also took a position in the Marketing Department at Shandon Southern Instruments where she met her husband, William Jon Hayes, originally from Sheffield, PA, whom she married February 14, 1970. Jean and her husband traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and England.

Jean’s activities included swimming and racquetball. She was an excellent crafter, specializing in needlepoint, petit point, and created a variety of miniatures. Her love of animals and support of needy children made her a strong supporter of St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, along with Animal Friends, Pittsburgh, PA.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Frances. She is survived by her husband, William, and her sister, Alison R. Holsinger.

Memorial visitation Saturday (January 5, 2019) from 10 AM until time of Service at 11 AM at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Ave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jean’s name to the Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh, 4401 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224; Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237; or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
