Shirley Rainer

Shirley F. Rainier, 78, of the Rouse Suites, passed away Sunday June 17, 2018 at the Warren Manor.

She was born March 6, 1940 in Bloomsburg, PA, a daughter to the late Harry and Elizabeth (Miller) Frederick. She moved to Warren in 1965 and then to Irvine. Shirley worked at Dillon Floral in Bloomsburg as a floral arranger for a number of years and then for Blair in the order filling and inspection Depts. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Youngsville and a life member of the Pendleton Marine Corps League Auxiliary participating in the Warren Co. Toys for Tots for over 25 years, hand writing thank-you notes for donations, shopping for the toys, picking them up and packing them. She also volunteered at Frank Chidos Restaurant, baking desserts and food and was a longtime member of the Warren Co. Humane Society. Shirley had a strong faith and expressed it with her dedication to her husband, children and granddaughter, family and friends. She was always giving selflessly with her cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and making crafts. She participated in several EUM Church mission trips, cooking for mission workers and visiting orphanages. She enjoyed traveling with her family to Tennessee, Florida, Kansas, Montana and the Bahama’s. Shirley loved visiting neighbors and friends and sharing in morning coffee. She also enjoyed garage saling, shopping at second hand stores, attending Pamona Grange auctions, camping, Starbrick bingo, canning and freezing garden produce, gardening in her flower beds, growing African Violets, playing cards and caring for her family pets, especially Inkie, Fonzie and Sammy.

She is survived by her husband George J. Rainier, whom she married January 17, 1959 in Bloomsburg, 2 daughters; Karen (Mike) Madigan of Russell and Jodie (Wayne) Brown of Pittsfield, her siblings; David Frederick of Burwick, PA, Norman “Red” Kreisher of Bloomsburg, PA and a step sister, Patti Degray of Muncy, PA, a granddaughter, Tiffany (Doug) Williams of Butler, PA and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her foster parents Harriet and Ben Miller, her step mom, Lois Frederick, a brother, Art Frederick, and 3 step brothers, Butch, Larry and Sonny Kreisher.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 pm at the EUM Church 18 Second St. in Youngsville, at which time a memorial service will be held there at 4 pm with the Rev. Ricky Nelson, pastor officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made the EUM Church in Youngsville or to the Warren Co.
