Susan Dennison

Susan “Susie” Marie Eckstrom Dennison, 65, of Swede Hollow Road, Sugar Grove, PA, died Monday, August 7, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with leiomyosarcoma cancer. Thankfully, she was at home surrounded by her loving family.

Susie was born on September 5, 1951 to the late Lawrence Eckstrom and Frances (Bolin) Eckstrom, who survives her of Busti, NY. She was one of eight children and enjoyed growing up on the family farm. She graduated with a Regents Diploma on June 23, 1969 from Southwestern Central High School. On October 30, 1971 she married the love of her life, David Samuel Dennison at Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church, officiated by the Rev. David Vennberg. Susie worked at the Pennsylvania Bank and Trust from 19701977. She was the Sugar Grove Tax Collector from 19832001. She also worked for Integra, Pennbank and National City. She worked for JC Penney from 1992 until retiring in 2010.

Susie was a member of the Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church, where she had attended since 1953. She held offices for Covenant Woman, Sunday school and on the Church Board. As an active member of the Heavenly Stitchers, she crocheted thousands of hats and scarves for the needy. Also, she made baby hats and blankets for the area pregnancy crisis centers. She belonged to the Sugar Grove American Legion Auxiliary and the former Sugar Grove Reading Club.

In addition to her father, Susie was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Eckstrom, her maternal grandparents, Edward and Pearl Bolin, her paternal grandparents, Edwin and Adina Eckstrom, her paternal step-grandfather, Peter Garlow, her inlaws, Wilbur and Natalie Dennison, a brother-in-law, Danny Dennison, a niece, MaryAnn Blanchard, a nephew, Joey Giordano and her special friends, Penny Hockensmith, Pauline Sarvis and Dean Patton.

In addition to her mother, Susie is survived by her loving husband, David Dennison (AKA her Sweetie Tweetie); her three children, Aaron Dennison of Sugar Grove, PA, Edward (Corrine) Dennison of Sugar Grove, PA and Jennifer Morningstar of Pittsfield, PA; her grandchildren, Dylan and Clayton Dennison, Ethan, Aidan and Caleb Morningstar and Juliet Rowels; her sisters, Sally (Steve) Boardman of Busti, NY, Sandy (Joe) Giordano of Busti, NY, Sarah (Dan) Giordon of Busti, NY and Stacey (Bob) Siperek of Lakewood, NY; her brothers, Denny (Holly) Eckstrom and Ben (Angie) Eckstrom of Sugar Grove, PA, her sister-in-law’s, Jessica Eckstrom, Linda Blalock, Diane Dennison; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Dennison; 23 nieces, 21 nephews, 15 great-nieces, 19 great-nephews, 3 great-great nieces, 6 great-great nephews and her special longtime friends, Paula Bish, Joanne Hetrick, Audrey Patton and Grace Vennberg.

Susie loved pigs, especially the ones she raised. She started out with Sugar and Spice (2 pigs that her dear friend Dean got for her). She crossbred her pigs until she reached the goal of having a calico or multicolored pig. She always named her pigs and when butchered and on the table, she would say, “Boy doesn’t Little Bacon taste good for supper tonight.”

Her husband teased her that she tried to mother the whole world and her children called her the human seat belt for all. Susie enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery, needle point, cutting firewood and reading. She tried to always put others first and was ready and willing to help anyone in need. She loved to do the behind the scene jobs. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, Aunt Piggie and friend.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Mission Covenant Church, 7205 Matthews Run Road, Sugar Grove, PA 16350 from 10:00-12:00pm at which time a funeral service will be held there with the Rev. Brian Haight, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mission Covenant Cemetery.
