Garden Club plant sale set for May 14

Photo provided to the Times Observer The Warren Garden Club’s annual plant sale is coming up. It will take place on May 14 at Gen. Joseph Warren Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 14.

Spring has sprung and the Warren Garden Club is here to help.

The club’s annual plant sale is set for Saturday, May 14, at General Joseph Warren Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“All plants will be priced individually and identified with their name and care needs,” Rebecca Ryan said. “Information will be available on garden basics, pollinator gardening, seed starting, lasagna gardening, beneficial insects and more.”

It can be overwhelming to know where to start now that the snow — hopefully — is gone.

“It is always helpful to start with a list of vegetables, annuals, and perennials you will need for your garden this season,” Ryan explained. “Check your garden journal from last year as to how many plants you will need. If you don’t have a garden journal, make a resolution to start one this spring.”

Absent the journal, photos of last year’s garden and plant containers can serve the same purpose.

“This will give you some idea of what you need,” she said. “Don’t forget perennials. They can go into the perennial border right now.”

The sale will also include several focus areas — houseplants, a kitchen garden and a garden flea market.

“You may have something at home that needs replaced or you may find something new to add to your collection,” Ryan said of the houseplant section. “Our experienced gardeners will be on hand to advise on the sun and watering needs of your new plant.”

The kitchen garden includes “herbs and edible flowers” that “will add flavor and color to your summer menu.”

The flea market, she added, is always a popular section.

“You will be sure to find that perfect little sign, interesting antique tool or gently used garden book,” Ryan said. “Flea market items will not be priced but will be sold by donation.”

Proceeds from the sale will be used to benefit the Warren Garden Club’s Scholarship Fund. They encourage anyone with gardening questions to feel free to ask.
