Career Street brings career experiences to students

Career Street is coming to Warren County.

The initiative brings employers and educators together to offer career exploration for students.

“Career Street has been up and running in Erie County for over seven years and has provided over 43,000 student experiences aligned with state standards, helping school districts meet state requirements and students meaningfully interact with, and learn from, employers,” Director Jennifer Pontzer said. “These experiences can be job shadows, speakers in the classroom, worksite tours, virtual experiences, and others.”

“Career Street is launching in Warren County,” Pontzer said. “We are building our complement of employers in your region.”

There are already several major Warren County employers showing on the www.careerstreeterie.com website.

“Through Career Street’s website, educators connect with employers to express interest in employer-offered experiences, I provide additional assistance as needed, and we have ‘scripted’ various experiences to make them easy for employers and educators to deploy,” she said. “The program has created mutually beneficial connections between schools and employers, invaluable opportunities for students, and new ways for employers to help shape the future workforce and is easy to use.”

Employers who are interested in signing on can register on the website. “Once your profile has been approved, you use a simple template to create career exploration experiences – speaker in the classroom, tours, etc. — that you are able to offer,” Pontzer said. “Educators use the website to identify employers willing to offer career exploration experiences and make the connections. It’s a simple program, but a valuable tool to educators.”
