The Warren County Historical Society has joined the ranks of YouTube.

And they’re excited to share their first program that will drop on the channel — and premiere on their Facebook page — Tuesday at 6 p.m.

They’ve called the program “Warren State Hospital: An Insider’s View Through History’s Lens.”

“When we found these vintage photos in our archives, we just knew we had to share them somehow,” Casey Ferry, WCHS event coordinator explained. “They are so fascinating and give great insight into something that is both intriguing and humbling.”

The photos included cover the hospital’s early history as well as look at the people and buildings — including the Farm Colony, patient activities and treatments offered as well as a look at the tunnels at the site.

The photos will be accompanied with commentary about the facility’s history.

“We are often asked questions about the state hospital, a topic that can be difficult to delve into as it is still a working hospital, and these historic photographs show how much things have changed and really give a respectful history on the elusive subject,” Ferry said.

“Showing them virtually is a necessity in these times but is also a great opportunity to share a program with those all across the country who don’t have the opportunity to come to our events even under more normal circumstances.”

The photos were in the Society’s “special collection” and Ferry said she came across them while researching another project.

“Other photos were then added from a couple of other collections to supplement the video,” she said.

The Society doesn’t plan to be a one hit wonder on YouTube either.

“We have a variety of exciting plans for the YouTube channel that include videos from our archives like the 1915 video that is already up, presentations such as the “Warren State Hospital: An Insider’s View through History’s Lens” that will showcase photos and information on local history, and speakers/re-enactors,” she said. “Possibilities are endless!”

She added that the Society has some vintage films in the archive that will also appear on the channel.

The YouTube channel name is “Warren History, PA” and the Society’s Facebook page can be found at facebook.com/warrenhistory.
