Vaccine Ordered

Number of COVID patients at hospital decrease

There were 11 new cases of COVID-19 and three more COVID-related deaths among Warren County’s numbers Wednesday.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health published a new total of 85 COVID-related deaths and 1,970 cases.

More than 5 percent of the county population has now had COVID-19. The department reported a rate of 5,026.7 per 100,000.

The news at Warren General Hospital continues to be good. For Tuesday and Wednesday, the number of COVID-positive patients at the hospital was seven — down from 27 on Monday. There had been at least 17 patients in every report from Dec. 21 with a maximum of 33 reported on Jan. 8.

STILL WAITING

For a while, there were green pins on the department’s map of vaccine partners in Warren County.

Warren General’s pin has changed from green – available doses – to red. The green pin at Warren State Hospital has been removed entirely.

There are still pins that have always been red at Gaughn’s Drug Store and Tidioute Health Center.

Vaccines have been ordered.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the number ordered will arrive quickly, but the order has been placed.

“We have requested doses for this week — Jan. 25 – and next week — Feb. 1,” Gaughn’s Drug Store Clinical Coordinator Justin Scholl said. “We received a call last week from the state confirming our dose request for this week.”

“It was explained to us that once the state had reviewed all of the statewide requests for the week of Jan. 25, that we would receive some form of notification confirming how many doses, if any, we would receive,” Scholl said. “At this point we are still awaiting either the confirmation or the delivery of doses.”

Those looking to sign up for the vaccine may contact Experience Inc. — Area Agency on Aging — or visit Gaughn’s Facebook page.

“We are continuing to… register people into our queue so that we can efficiently distribute our doses to the community once they are received,” Scholl said. “We are ready to get started vaccinating as soon as we have the vaccine on hand.”
