COVID cases reach 100 in county

With seven new cases of COVID-19 announced on Tuesday, Warren County reached 100 for the month of November and a total of 172.

As the surge continues, there are some cases to report at Warren County’s care facilities.

At the Rouse Home, Warren Manor, and Kinzua Healthcare, testing is being done weekly, as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

“This week’s testing returned a total of three employees who tested positive for COVID-19,” Rouse Marketing Director Kelsey Angove said Tuesday. “They are now in quarantine and will not return to work until further notice.”

“All Rouse Home residents were tested on November 19, and zero residents tested positive for the virus,” Angove said. “The Rouse Home continues to be open for visitors.”

“Kinzua Healthcare & Rehabilitation has zero positive cases among residents and caregivers at this time,” according to a Monday release from Guardian Healthcare. “Residents and caregivers are currently tested weekly in accordance with CMS and DOH guidelines.”

“The safety of our residents and our employees remains our top priority,” according to the release. “We continue to follow all CDC, CMS, and DOH guidance for health care facilities.”

There are some options for visiting family members.

“In accordance with DOH recommendations, Kinzua Healthcare & Rehabilitation is not permitting face-to-face visitation at this time,” according to the release. “Visitations can currently be conducted through window visits. Kinzua Healthcare & Rehabilitation plans to have a Thanksgiving dinner for all residents and caregivers while also arranging family visits via virtual platforms including Zoom, Skype, and FaceTime.”

Warren Manor did not provide comment as of Tuesday evening.

The Suites at Rouse falls in a different testing category.

“The Suites at Rouse conducted monthly COVID-19 testing of all staff on November 18,” Angove said. “This round of testing revealed four employees who tested positive for COVID-19. They are now in quarantine and will not return to work until further notice.”

“In response, all Suites at Rouse residents were tested on November 19, revealing three positive test results among residents,” she said. “Two of those residents are now quarantined in their apartments and one is not currently in the building. In response, the entire facility has been designated as a quarantine zone in order to decrease cross-contamination between residents.”

“As a facility, we have trained and educated our staff on how to respond to a new outbreak while properly caring for residents with COVID 19,” Angove said. “Per Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations, the Suites at Rouse is now restricting all non-essential visitors, communal dining, communal activities and any non-medically necessary outings. It is strongly encouraged for all residents to remain in the building at all times.”

“The health and safety of both our residents and staff is of the utmost importance and we have been actively working to reduce the risk of exposure for all,” Angove said. “The Rouse Home and the Suites at Rouse have been able to keep their levels of infection very low. We believe our proactive efforts at infection control have allowed us to keep the vast majority of residents and staff from testing positive for the virus.”

With seven new cases, the county’s total rises to 172 – 150 confirmed and 22 probable.

The new cases include two in the Warren zip code – bringing the total there to 44 – and four in the Youngsville zip code – total of 27, according to information from the Department of Health.

The seventh new case could be from one of the three zip codes that originate outside of the county – Titusville, Corry, and Spartansburg all have new cases – or it could be in one of the zip codes that has at least one case, but less than five. The department redacts the exact number in those cases.

Irvine remains the last zip code with no case and no probable cases.

There have been about 110 new cases in the county in the past 30 days and over 80 in the past two weeks.

The rate in the county is 435.5 per 100,000.
