County ends with 62.6% Census self-response rate

The 2020 Census is no longer collecting responses.

Statewide, 69.6 percent of households self-responded, with over half of them doing so online.

In Warren County, the rate was somewhat lower at 62.6 percent — with just over a third (34.1 percent) of self-responders doing so online.

Forest County had the lowest rate of self-reporting in the state at 26.8 percent, according to 2020census.gov. Bucks County had the highest at 79.5 percent.

While Warren County didn’t have a particularly high rate of response, it did show improvement.

“The final response in 2010 was only 60.4 percent,” County Complete Count Chairman Dan Glotz said. “We improved a little bit.”

“A higher response rate means more people were counted voluntarily,” Glotz said. There was no need for a census taker to visit those residences.

The county gave the Census Bureau a list of residential structures. Requests were sent to each of those structures. Some self-responded.

“Your input matters,” Glotz said. A more accurate count means “we’re going to know how many people are in a household. That is going to help different agencies provide funding for a number of programs.”

Within the county, there were some highs and lows.

Pine Grove Township had 77.1 percent self-response and Glade Township finished at 75.9 percent.

Limestone Township had the lowest rate of response at 12.4 percent, followed by Cherry Grove Township at 25.2 percent and Deerfield Township at 27.6 percent.
