Cause sought in blaze of Stone Hill Road property

Times Observer photos by Josh Cotton It took City of Warren fire crews about half an hour to knock down a blaze at 921 Stone Hill Road in the early morning hours on Thursday. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

A Stone Hill Road residence sustained heavy damage to the rear of the structure as a result of an early Thursday morning fire.

City of Warren Fire Chief Rodney Wren said the structure at 921 Stone Hill Road was “pretty much fully involved” when crews responded to the scene shortly after 3:45 a.m. and flames were “blowing out most of the windows and doors at the residence.”

Wren said that they had to drop the power line from the house as it was “arching and sparking,” leaving a burn mark on the road in front of the residence.

He said there was also damage to the house next door.

In addition to the power line, Wren said the slope and tight space in that area presented additional challenges.

“The guys were very, very aware of their surroundings,” he said, indicating that no one was injured.

Wren said the resident was “outside the structure upon our arrival.”

Pleasant and Starbrick VFDs assisted the city at the scene and in responding to other issues in the city while the city fire department was combating the blaze.

Wren said it took about a half hour from the initial call until the fire was knocked down.

He credited crews for getting “a very effective stop on it.”

He couldn’t comment on a cause. The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was on scene later Thursday morning and Wren estimated that a ruling might not be made until next week.

He did note, however, that there was nothing suspicious found on scene.
