Snyder has bail revoked

A Warren man – a lifetime Megan’s Law sexual offender – has had bail revoked at a docket that includes aggravated assault and strangulation charges because he picked up new charges for failure to comply with his offender registration requirements.

John A. Snyder, 49, was charged in connection with a September 18, 2019 incident by City of Warren police with charges including aggravated assault, strangulation, terroristic threats and hinder apprehension/prosecution – harbor or conceal.

While out on bail on those offenses he was charged by city police on Dec. 31 with two counts of failure to verify address/be photographed.

Online court records indicate he’s been incarcerated since January.

Assistant District Attorney Tatania Malys asserted during criminal argument proceedings on Tuesday before Judge Gregory Hammond that the additional charges are sufficient reason for bail to be revoked on the assault charges.

Snyder’s counsel, Alan Conn, identified significant mental health issues.

“Obviously, there are serious offenses,” Hammond said, noting that hinder apprehension/prosecution is significant in his deliberations.

He noted the registration violations are “equally troubling” and said that a “failure to fully comply… while in the community causes me concern.”

Hammond then ordered that Snyder’s bail be revoked and that he “stand committed pending disposition of these charges.”

Snyder was convicted back in 2009 of indecent assault – complainant less than 13 years of age, which triggered the lifetime registration requirements.
