Edwards jailed for alleged assault

An Eddy St. man is behind bars on strangulation and attempted rape charges stemming from a Monday afternoon domestic dispute.

Timothy Allen Edwards, 53, 218 Eddy St., was charged by City of Warren police on Monday.

Police were dispatched to the area where a caller observed that a man “had his hands around the female’s neck and both parties were yelling.”

Police then met with the victim who said Edwards “struck her multiple times with a wooden stick” and police observed cuts to her face, chin and welts on her left arm and both of her thighs. The victim then gave police the stick who concluded that it “matched the size of the welts she had received.”

The victim went on to tell police that Edwards “placed his hands around her throat, applying pressure, causing her to have restricted breathing. Redness was observed around her neck.”

The victim also reported that Edwards “was upset as she would not have sexual intercourse with him. She also reported that (Edwards) was intoxicated and had ripped her shirt.”

The caller advised police that they “heard screaming coming from her neighbors front porch” and “observed (Edwards) with his hands around the victim’s throat. The caller believed (Edwards) was attempting to get the victim back inside of their residence.”

Police subsequently charged Edwards with criminal attempt – rape forcible compulsion, unlawful restraint/serious bodily injury, strangulation – applying pressure to throat or neck, simple assault and disorderly conduct engage in fighting.

Online court records indicate Edwards was preliminarily arraigned before District Justice Raymond Zydonik on Monday and placed in the Warren County Jail after he was unable to post $35,000 bail.

According to online court records, a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.
