Crawford County woman jailed for alleged stabbing

A Crawford County woman is in Warren County Jail after allegedly stabbing a Columbus Township woman in December.

Shaiyla J. Kent, 24, of Cambridge Springs, is charged with aggravated assault; terroristic threats; simple assault; and harassment.

According to Corry-based state police, Kent was an unwanted guest at the alleged victim’s residence. The two argued and the altercation turned physical, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

After attempted punches from both parties, “Kent pulled out a pocket knife… the length of the victim’s hand and began waving and threatening her with it,” police said in the affidavit. “In an attempt to back away from Kent, (the alleged victim) fell backwards onto a recliner. It was at this point Kent stabbed (the victim) in the back of her right leg, just above the knee.”

“The laceration from the stab wound was approximately two inches by one inch wide which required emergency medical treatment,” police said. She “received 10 stitches to close the wound.”

Kent was arraigned Dec. 19 before District Justice Todd Woodin.

She was taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $35,000 bail.

Kent waived a preliminary hearing on Wednesday and is scheduled for formal arraignment in the court of common pleas at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13.
