Warren pair charged for over 4 pounds of marijuana

A W. Fifth Ave. couple face drug charges as a result of police discovering over four pounds of marijuana amid other drugs and paraphernalia at their home.

City of Warren Police have charged Wayne J. Miles, 51, and Jessica A. Miles, 33, both of 613 W. Fifth Ave., Warren, with possession with intent to deliver, adulterate/misbrand any controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police alleged in the affidavit of probable cause that witnesses “observed drugs at the residence of 613 W. Fifth Ave.” on Dec. 29 at 6:21 p.m.

The witnesses told police, per the affidavit, that “a gallon-sized zip-lock bag was observed with suspected marijuana inside” and was located “in the living room of the house under the coffee table” in addition to “loose pills within the residence.”

Police note that the witnesses “are familiar with marijuana” and told police that Wayne Miles “asked them if they were interested in purchasing any of it.”

The witnesses further told police that “while leaving, two male individuals were making their way into the home where they had commented about buying drugs,” according to the affidavit.

Police obtained a search warrant for the residence and noted in the affidavit that both defendants were “present at the time of the search.

“As a result of the search, 71.3 ounces (4.45 pounds) of marijuana, scales, several pipes, plastic baggies, rolling papers, 15 clonazepam 1 mg, 1 quetipaine 50 mg, six small baggies of a yellow powder and $292 in cash were recovered.”

The misbranding charge, according to the criminal complaint, stems from the clonazepam that was “not packaged in the original package stating who it belonged to and what the pills were inside.”

Both defendants were preliminarily arraigned before District Justice Laura Bauer Monday afternoon. Jessica Miles was released on $10,000 unsecured bail while Wayne Miles was placed in the Warren County Jail after he was unable to post $10,000 bail, according to online court records.

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for both defendants on Jan. 7 at 11 a.m.
