Technical difficulties

Voters in Warren County reported numerous problems on Election Day.

Long lines were common.

Individual voters in the northern part of the county reported they had to wait over an hour. Some reported 90 minutes.

In other areas, reports of 45 minutes to an hour came in.

In response to some long wait times, some precincts handed out emergency paper ballots.

No precinct had more than two election machines, a decrease in some parts of the county form past elections.

The reporting of results on warrenvotes.com was also delayed compared to past elections.

“Due to the use of paper ballots, voting results have been delayed,” the county said on warrenvotes.com. “It is difficult to say at what point all votes will be counted as they are being scanned now and it may take longer than expected.”

Commissioner Jeff Eggleston acknowledged the issues as well.

“Now, I’d like to apologize to everyone who had an issue with the voting machines and either waited forever or didn’t vote at all,” he said shortly after the polls closed on Tuesday night.

Eggleston noted that he challenged Gov. Tom Wolf’s mandate to implement new machines with a paper trail “and I think that had an effect on the number of machines we had today and how they were implemented. I am just one Commissioner, but I should have looked into this harder. That’s on me.”

While he acknowledged the frustration, he credited the work of Elections Director Lisa Rivett in this process.

He said “she’s done a great job with what she had to work with.”

“She has fought through some major challenges and deserves respect, especially since her hands were tied on a number of issues.”
