The Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua are presented with a $1,500 check from the John Gertsch Memorial Home Association to use towards collecting supplies for the care packages they will be sending to troops deployed over Christmas.

The Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua continue to receive support for their packages for troops.

In just over two weeks, 3,000 American Flags from 33 TOPS stores were collected. 500 of those embroidered flags were selected to be properly laundered, by Colvin Cleaners, Kenmore, NY, and the stars removed for the program.

When stars are removed and placed into care packages, the following message is tucked in along with each star: “I am part of our American flag that has flown over the USA. I can no longer fly. The sun and winds cause me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that You are not forgotten.”

A total of 25,000 stars are being given back across the program’s three state improve. Stars are given to those actively serving in the military as well as veterans in VA hospitals, nursing homes and honor flights. Stars are also being presented to first responders.
