Police continue search for missing Panama woman

Police agencies and volunteer firefighters from nearly 20 departments spent Monday searching for a missing Panama woman.

The search for Diana R. Chase, 74, continued throughout the night and is expected to resume today following a briefing at 7 a.m., Chautauqua County Sheriff Jim Quattrone said. Chase, who reportedly suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease and may be in need of medical care, was last seen Sunday around 1:30 p.m. in the area of Blockville Watts Flats Road in Ashville.

Chase is believed to have walked away from her home sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. She is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.

At the time she disappeared, police said she was wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black slip on shoes.

“There have been search teams out all day,” Quattrone said. “Volunteer fire personnel from nearly 20 volunteer departments, Forrest Rangers, Emergency Service Search Team, county fire coordinators, Harmony Highway Department have all been out searching. Various stores have assisted in supplying food and drink to support the many volunteers.”

Quattrone urged anyone who may have seen Chase to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

“It is times like this that we truly see what great communities we have in Chautauqua County,” he said. “The many volunteers that come out to search and assist are so much appreciated. We continue to keep the family in our thoughts and prayers as the search continues.”
