McGregor to be classified as Tier III offender for life

A Warren man will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life as a result of a guilty plea entered on Monday.

Gary L. McGregor, Jr., 30, pled guilty before Judge Gregory Hammond to a felony count of indecent assault.

In exchange for the plea, charges of corruption of minors and indecent assault were not prosecuted.

He was charged back in May for repeated assaults of a five-year-old.

According to the police affidavit of probable cause, Pennsylvania State Parole officers reported to City of Warren Police that McGregor admitted to having inappropriate contact with a minor child.

Police said McGregor waived his rights prior to an interview with city police and a Warren County detective.

During that interview, according to the affidavit, McGregor described a pattern of behavior in which the child would “grind and gyrate on (his) lap causing him to have sexual thoughts about the child.”

The specific allegation to which McGregor pled indicated that the assaults occurred on “numerous occasions” between February and April.

Assistant District Attorney Tatia Malys said that the victim’s grandfather, who has custody of the victim, is in agreement with the plea.

The offense makes McGregor a Tier III sexual offender.

“You’ll have to register as a sexual offender for the rest of your lifetime,” Hammond told McGregor.
