Starbrick man held for safety

A Starbrick man has been charged with aggravated assault after police allegedly tried to detain him for his own safety.

Charles S. Ferraro, 54, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault; resisting arrest; two counts of simple assault; and two counts of harassment.

According to City of Warren Police, police were asked to check on Ferraro regarding his “safety and welfare.”

Ferraro screamed that he was not breaking the law and requested that police leave, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Police “attempted to detain the defendant for safety concerns” because he had access to a firearm, police said. When police “attempted to handcuff the defendant, (he) kicked (an officer) in the right leg and also kicked another officer.”

According to the affidavit, it took “substantial force to overcome the defendant’s resistance.”

Ferraro was taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $10,000 bail.
