Preliminary returns indicate historic midterm turnout in Warren County.
The Times Observer is estimating turnout in Tuesday’s General Election at approximately 46 percent throughout the county.
That number was derived by taking an average of the total ballots cast in the three county-wide races – Senate, House of Representative and governor – against a total number of voters in Warren County of just over 30,000.
The Times Observer reported that midterm turnout in 2010 – when Republicans took control of the House in the wake of the first two years of Barack Obama’s first term – to be approximately 40 percent.
Midterms in 2014 during Obama’s second term resulted in 39.1 percent turnout in Warren County.
The 2016 presidential election netted 62 percent turnout.
Municipal elections, which typically generate much less interest and lower turnout, was 22.35 percent in 2017.
