Drug bust leads to two arrests for trafficking meth, bath salts

Officers of the Warren County Drug Task Force and federal agencies enter a shed on the 5 1/2 Dahl St., Warren, property where officers executed warrants Thursday morning.

A Thursday morning drug bust started with the use of a flashbang grenade and resulted in the arrest of two people on felony drug charges.

Christopher A. Cross, 34, and Jessica L. Reed, 34, of 5 1/2 Dahl St., Warren, were arrested and face charges.

“The Warren County Drug Task Force conducted numerous controlled buys out of the residence,” Task Force Coordinator Bill Mickle said.

He said Cross and Reed were were involved in trafficking methamphetamine and bath salts.

Cross faces four counts of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver narcotics; three counts of criminal use of a communication facility; and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Reed faces two counts of conspiracy — manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver narcotics; and one count of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver narcotics.

“This investigation started back in June,” Mickle said. “It is a multi-agency effort involving the Warren County Drug Task Force and federal agencies.”

At about 10:40 a.m. Thursday, agents entered the house, which is located behind another Dahl Street house.

Neighbors and passersby said they heard the explosion of the flashbang.

“We did deploy a diversionary device,” Mickle said.

There was no resistance from the suspects. “Everybody was compliant,” Mickle said. “There were no injuries.”

Cross was taken from the scene in an ambulance. “He displayed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance,” Mickle said.

Officers searched the house, grounds, and a shed on the property.

Mickle said the search turned up various items “consistent with the manufacture and delivery of narcotics.”

“As with all drug investigations, this case is ongoing,” Mickle said. “We continue to work with our state and federal counterparts, as well as the community, to disrupt and deter drug trafficking in Warren County and those who attempt to bring narcotics into our community.”

The task force is overseen by the Warren County District Attorney’s office and includes officers from the Warren County Sheriff’s office, City of Warren Police, Conewango Township Police, Youngsville Borough Police, Warren County Adult Probation, and the U.S. Forest Service.

“The District Attorney’s office was aware of and supervised this operation,” Mickle said.

Cross and Reed were taken to the Warren County Jail. Bail was set at $30,000 for Cross, and $20,00 for Reed. Cross posted bail, while Reed was unable to do so.
