Chatmon’s bail revoked in county

A Falconer, N.Y. man with pending drug charges – who picked up more drug charges – has had his $100,000 bail revoked.

Demario T. Chatmon, 38, Falconer, was initially charged in Warren County back in January after Warren County Drug Task Force investigators learned that Chatmon was allegedly going to deliver crack cocaine in the area of the Warren Mall.

After refusing to stop at gunpoint, Chatmon ran across Rt. 62 where K-9 Choper was then tasked with apprehending him in a weeded area.

Police alleged in January that “approximately 12.9 grams of a white rock-like substance that was packaged in a clear plastic baggy.”

Investigators “know this substance has the same look and texture of cocaine. A field test of the substance resulted in a positive reading for the presence of cocaine.”

He was busted earlier this week in Chautauqua County when the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force, New York State Police, and Ellicott Police Departments cooperated in conducting search warrants at two apartments in Falconer.

Police reported the seizure of 11.38 ounces of cocaine, $21,206 in cash, and a loaded 9mm pistol, reportedly stolen from Erie, as a result of the searches of the apartments.

Chatmon was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (one for brass knuckles), and a third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after he was allegedly found to have nine grams of crack cocaine on his person when searched at the Jamestown city jail.

The Warren County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to revoke his bail two days after he was arrested on the new charges.

That motion was before Judge Gregory Hammond on Friday.

Greene said that the basis for the revocation request is the new charges and added that his office has prepared extradition paperwork to have Chatmon returned to Warren County as he is currently incarcerated in Chautauqua County.

Chatmon’s attorney, Elizabeth Feronti, pointed out that Chatmon is innocent until proven guilty and noted that he hasn’t failed to appear for any proceedings up to this point.

Hammond said that a conviction isn’t required for bail revocation and revoked his bail, ordered Chatmon committed to the Warren County Jail until his charges here are disposed and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
