Warren man behind bars for alleged sexual assault

Vanderhoof.

A Warren man remains behind bars and faces charges stemming from an alleged sexual assault that occurred on April 13.

Michael Wayne Herbert Vanderhoof, 22, 108 N. South St., was arrested and charged by Pennsylvania State Police with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse – forcible compulsion and indecent assault – without consent of other.

Online court records show he is being held in the Warren County Jail on $75,000 bail.

The female victim went to the Warren state police barracks, arriving at approximately 12:19 a.m. on April 14, to report the alleged assault that occurred the afternoon prior, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The woman told police that “she had met Vanderhoof and (he) had driven her to Morrison Run Road” where he ultimately forced her to perform oral sex on him.

She told police that Vanderhoof “took her back to her house and begged her not to tell their mutual friend,” who is roommates with Vanderhoof.

Vanderhoof was contacted by police the following day while he was at his sister’s house.

“Prior to (police) saying why he was there, Vanderhoof uttered ‘I have never seen any girls yesterday nor talked to any girls yesterday. I drove the normal way home from Falconer and went for a motorcycle ride,'” the affidavit alleges.

Vanderhoof agreed to meet police at the barracks in Starbrick and was read his Miranda warnings and was then interviewed.

Police “asked Vanderhoof what he had done on (April 13),” the affidavit states. “He provided a vague description of his day.”

When pressed for specific times, Vanderhoof, police said, “did not include any contact” with the victim. He said that he was at his N. South St. residence with his roommate and another male between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Police “asked him if they would tell me that he had indeed been with them from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Police) told him that the timeframe being investigated was 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.. Vanderhoof then changed his initial story about not being with any female and indicated he was with a female in his van, but didn’t know her name. Vanderhoof told (police) that they had been on Morrison Run Road and that she had come on to him” and performed oral sex, the affidavit states.

Online court records show that a preliminary hearing has been scheduled in the matter for April 19 at 2 p.m.
