Suspect’s capture causes brief lockdown at YEMS

Students and faculty at Youngsville Elementary/Middle School endured a brief lockout on Thursday afternoon.

An announcement posted on the Warren County School District Facebook page (early Thursday afternoon) said: “The Pennsylvania State Police has asked that Youngsville Elementary Middle School go into a lockout while the police address a situation in the community. The police will notify the school when the lockout situation can end.

“Under the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), a lockout requires that all students and staff remain indoors, and all exterior doors be locked. Student attendance is taken, but other than that, both students and staff will continue to operate normally.”

The lockout was due to the apprehension of Jamie Delbert Crick, 41, who was wanted on a felony burglary count, according to law enforcement officials.

“We (Youngsville Police) were contacted by state police asking for assistance in apprehending a suspect,” said Youngsville Chief of Police Todd Mineweaser. “The residence the suspect was located at was on Second Street near the school, so we contacted the school as a precaution to let them know we were chasing a suspect in the area.”

The lockout was very short and uneventful, according to school district Director of Administrative Support Services Gary Weber and YEMS Principal Elizabeth Kent.

“The lockout was the suggestion of Youngsville and state police, which were serving a warrant near the school,” Weber said.

“It was a pre-cautionary measure due to a situation in the community,” Kent said. “It only lasted for about five minutes.”

The Facebook page was quickly updated with “***UPDATE*** The lockout has been lifted at this time.”

The Warren County School District Facebook page was updated twice more on Thursday with the cancellation of all after-school activities due to flooding in the county, as well as announcing a two-hour delay for Friday.
