Youngsville Life

Poker Run

reschedule date

The reschedule date for the Youngsville Rec Committee’s 8th Annual Canoe/Kayak Poker Run event is Saturday, Oct. 20. The event had to be postponed for safety reasons in late August due to a large amount of water released from the dam as a result of heavy rainfall in the area. However, this fun, family fundraising event is back on. All proceeds benefit baseball field improvements.

Travel along the Allegheny River from the Kinzua Dam to Betts Park with three stops along the way rain or shine. There will be a $250 cash prize, food, and other giveaways.

The starting time (and day of event registration) is from 9 to 11 a.m. The poker run ends at 4 p.m. at the Betts Park boat launch.

Registration is $15 per person if pre-registered; and $20 registration fee per person on the day of the event. The cost includes food, rest-stop refreshments, and giveaways.

There is a free T-shirt for the first 100 registrants. Canoe/kayak rentals are available through Allegheny Outfitters.

To pre-register, send check payable to Youngsville Rec Committee, 40 Railroad Street, Youngsville, PA 16371. A copy of the registration form can be downloaded from the Youngsville Library Community News page at www.youngsvilleLibrary.org, or call 563-4604 extension 2 with for information.

Coming Home bonfire

Although all the members of the YHS 1971 Homecoming Court might not be in attendance, all alumni and public are still welcome to attend a special “Coming Home” bonfire event, hosted by the Class of 1971 on Friday, Oct. 5, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church pavilion (148 Davis Street). Bring a snack to share, lawn chairs, and your own non-alcoholic beverages. Be ready to reminisce about YHS memories of yesteryear. Contact Becky Walters at (814) 563-4791 or bswalters@verizon.net with questions. More information about this event and all other Coming Home events can be found on the Youngsville Library Community News page at www.youngsvillelibrary.org.

Joyfull Cafe donations

Free community meals at the JoyFull Cafe are held every Wednesday at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church (179 Davis Street). Each of the meals is planned, prepared, and served by volunteers. The Youngsville Free Methodist Church is looking for volunteers to help with meal prep, bringing in a dessert, serving a meal, taking a meal to a shut-in, and cleaning up after a meal. Donations for the following items to help stock the Cafe are also welcome as they will be used on a regular basis for community meals: regular spaghetti noodles (no Angel Hair or Thin pasta please), #10 cans of spaghetti sauce, regular size jars of parmesan cheese, butter, salad dressing (regular & lite): French, Ranch, and Italian, potatoes, #10 cans of either green beans or corn, large jars of BBQ sauce, large cans of either Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken Soup, large bags of frozen broccoli, #10 cans of fruit cocktail/fresh fruit, seasonings: granulated garlic, Italian seasoning, parsley, salt and pepper, ham, chicken, pork butt, and large packages of hamburger. Contact the church office at office@ybfree.org. Thank you in advance for any donation or volunteer services you are willing to provide towards this weekly, pro-community fellowship activity.
