Senior Center Menu

Dollar Dinner

On Wednesday, June 24, members of the Tidioute First United Methodist Church invite the community to join them at the Dollar Dinner at 6 p.m.

Bring a dish if you wish, but it is not necessary.

Watson Grange

Members of the Watson Grange will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Grange hall on Rt. 337. All members are urged to attend.

Sports Boosters

The Tidioute Community Charter School Sports Boosters are currently taking any additions or changes to the 2016 Tidioute Community Birthday Calendars.

Contact Amanda Shields on Facebook or by calling 730-3120. If you would like to add an anniversary, birthday, or change a name please let her know. Business owners will be receiving letters about purchasing ads shortly.

Deadline for calendar changes is June 30.

VBS

Vacation Bible School will be held July 8 to July 10 at the First United Methodist Church.

Active Aging

Tim Juliano will present a program on Active Aging at the Tidioute Senior Center at 11 a.m. July 13.

This program is open to the public and anyone can come even if you don’t want to stay for lunch. If you want to stay for lunch please notify the staff early.

Glaucoma Testing

Tidioute Senior Center will be offering free Glaucoma Testing at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, and it is open to the public.

Walking Club

The Tidioute Community Cruisers Walking Club will be walking on Sundays and Thursdays, at 7 p.m.

Those interested should be a the Methodist Church prior to 7 p.m., or contact Kelley McKean.

Bake Sale

St John Women’s Guild will be holding a Bake Sale on July 4th and 5th before and after the 4:30 p.m. Saturday Mass and the 11 a.m. Sunday Mass.

If you can donate items for this sale it would be greatly appreciated. Price and bring the items to the Center before the 4:30 p.m. Saturday Mass that weekend.

Prayer Chain

Each church has a prayer chain where members can call and have prayers prayed for those who need them.

St John Women’s Guild also has such a list and they request prayers for the shut ins and those on the prayer chains.

If you would like to add a loved one to this prayer chain, contact the Parish Office at 484-7747. They will only pass along the “person’s name” to the callers of the prayer chain if permission is given-otherwise the intention is, “someone scheduled for surgery, those dealing with an illness, victim of a car accident, etc. All calls should go to the Parish Office.

Parade Theme

The Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament Parade Committee has announced the theme for this year’s parade to be held on Saturday, Sept. 26. The theme will be, “Tidioute Way Back When”; floats will be judged prior to the parade so the announcement can be made of the winners during the parade as they pass the viewing stand.

Open House

An Open House will be held on Saturday, July 4, at the Boondocks Antiques, 140 Main St, Tidioute.

Store hours are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

Concert Held

On Sunday evening, June 21, the New Dawn Singers performed at the Presbyterian Church in Tidioute.

There are usually five to six singers at each performance, but Tidioute was blessed with six of the most talented performers who minster in contemporary gospel, Southern gospel, hymn arrangements and praise songs.

Sunday’s group included Joelle of Lancaster, who sings second soprano, Josh of Eusti, Fla., who sings base. Corina from Lancaster, who sings soprano one, Paul from Lancaster, who sings tenor, Andrea of Wisconsin, who sings alto and Pwee of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., who sings tenor.

They will be performing at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Pleasant Community Church in Warren.

Borough Office Closed

The Tidioute Borough office will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the 4th of July, and will reopen on Monday, July 6.

Golf Scramble

The Tidioute Area Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual golf Scramble on Saturday, July 25, at River Ridge Golf Course with a 9 a.m. shotgun.

This is a four-person scramble and an entry fee of $40 per person, which will include green fees, riding cart, prizes, lunch and beverages on the course.

All cash payout of First-Place Scratch of $200; Second-Place Scratch of $160; Third-Place Scratch of $100; and First-Place Peoria System of $160. Prize payout is based on a full field of 18 teams – men, women, and mixed teams are invited. Extra costs may including skins, mulligans and fund-raising games on course.

Summer Reading Program

Tidioute Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will be from July 6 to July 31.

Reading Logs and registration forms for children ages two to 18 are available at the library.

Beginning July 6, Story Hours will be held on Mondays at 1 p.m. for ages 2 to 6 year olds, and Fridays at 1 p.m. for ages 7 to 13 year olds.

The theme this year is “Every Hero Has a Story.”

The library is open on Monday and Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pocket Change Ministry

Tidioute First United Methodist Church is still collecting pocket change in containers located in local businesses.

This new program is known as Pocket Change Ministry and proceeds collected will be used to assist those in need with gasoline, diapers, groceries, heating fuel, etc.

August 1 Festivities

On Saturday, August 1, many activities will take place in Tidioute:

10 a.m. Registration for the THS/TCCS Alumni Reunion begins and ends at 12:45

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the encampment for the WWII reenactors will be open to the public.

12 p.m. the Chicken BBQ at the Fishing Tournament Trailer will be selling chicken dinner until they are sold out.

1 to 2 p.m. there will be a program for the alumni in the gym at the school.

3 p.m. the WWII Reenactment will begin at the Tidioute Creek near Tidioute Towers and proceed down King Street, turn onto Buckingham ST and onto the Tidioute Bridge and finishing up on Rt. 62 near RT 337.

4 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a free Concert in Picture Show Park with music being provided by Razzer’s Jazzers-Ragtime and Dixieland Music.

5 to 7 p.m. Alumni Dinner at the firehall (call Sandy Jamieson at 484-7286 to sign up for dinner)

8 to 11 p.m. will be a Dance at the Firehall.

Food Vendors Needed

Anyone wishing to have a Food Booth at the WWII Reenactment should contact either Dan Gazalie at 730-9599 or Henry Brown at 730-1662 and they will answer all your questions and assign spots for your booth.

Farmers Market

Vouchers

On Tuesday, June 23, residents age 60 and older will be able to sign up for the Farmers Market Food Vouchers at the Tidioute Senior Center.

To be eligible to receive $20 in vouchers, a participants’ gross income can be no higher than $21,775 for a single person and no more than $29,471 for a couple.

Participants will receive the vouchers the same day as sign-up. Proof of birthdate and ID is required at sign-up, which will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m.

Concert in Picture Show Park

Tidioute will host a free concert in Picture Show Park on Friday night June 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Music will be provided by Day Old Soup-Original Recipe. This is one of many concerts sponsored by Tidioute Merchants.

Presbyterian Church

On Sunday evening, June 21, the First Presbyterian Church of Tidioute will welcome “The New Dawn Singers” for a concert at 6:30 p.m.

The group of five to six performers, under the direction of Ann and John Blake, come from all over the United States; some have performed in Branson, Missouri, others at the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, Pa., and also worked for Disney World in Florida.

Together they minister in contemporary gospel, Southern gospel, hymn arrangements and praise songs.

They come to you with God’s blessing and a free will offering.

VFW Golf Tournament

VFW Post 8803 will hold its annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 27, with an 8 a.m. shotgun at the North Hills Golf Course in Corry. Sign-up and rules are the same as last year. A fee of $35 per person to be made at the time of your sign up.

Relay For Life

The annual Relay for Life will be held Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to Sunday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at Betts Park in Warren.

A team from the Tidioute branch of Northwest Savings Bank will be there and members of the Tidioute Tata’s will also be present.

If interested in becoming a part of these teams contact Pam, who is co-chairperson of the event, or Anita, who will head up the team Tidioute Tata’s. Flag Day Ceremony

The VFW Post 8803 and the Ladies Auxiliary to Post 8803 held their Flag Burning Ceremony on Saturday, June 13, at 10 a.m. in the Post parking lot.

Welcoming remarks were give by Beverly Stotler, Patriotic Instructor. Muriel Carothers sang the Star Spangled Banner. VFW Color Guard was present and Taps were played while the flags were being burned. Assisting in the burning of the flags was John Hanisak and Otto Stablein, and also assisted by members of the Ladies Auxiliary.

Caring For Your Eyes

Carole Brosius from the Sight Center of Northwestern PA presented a program to the Tidioute Senior Center attendees on Tuesday, June 9.

Brosius touched on such subjects as diabetic neuropathy, cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma.

Several points were made and the importance of taking care of your eyes and having regular checkups.

Floating Raft Raffle

There are still a few raffle tickets left for the Six Person Floating Island Raft with two built in coolers, cup holders and contoured seating.

With a size of 10 feet by 12 feet there is ample room for you and your friends.

Tickets are only $2 each and the drawing will be July 1.

Proceeds will benefit a trip to Spain with the Spanish Club of TCCS for Kent Heenan.

Christian Singles

Christian Singles of Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren have a Christian Singles Group, which is a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ, doing life together as single adults. Using this season of life to bring honor and glory to our Lord.

They are a non-denominational group and not a dating service. Their main goal is to enjoy their lives as singles in a way that brings God the glory. They enjoy a variety of activities that help them maintain a positive outlook on Life.

Sponsored by the Otterbein United Methodist Church of Pittsfield, monthly activities take place in the Jamestown or Warren areas. They have an occasional family-friendly event.

Borough Council

Due to a lack of a quorum, no meeting for Tidioute Borough Council could be held. However, those in attendance listened to complaints from the public, although no action was taken.

Council will be accepting bids for tree removal in Picture Show Park. One rather large pine and a walnut need to be removed.

The borough office will be closed on Friday, July 3, for the holiday and will reopen on Monday, July 6.

Those who attended enjoyed cake and pop for the retirement of Police Chief Steve Vincent.
