LitWits Book Club

Members of the LitWits Book Club entertained guest speaker Don Martin, of Lottsville, during the January 29 meeting. The Club members were fascinated with his descriptions of research and sources available. Those in attendance were able to peruse his book, The History of Lottsville, Pennsylvania, 1815-2015. Several members recognized relatives and historical buildings and were amazed to learn how large the community was in the 1800s. The publication, spurred by the Lottsville Heritage community celebration which began in 2015, is a collection of historical documentations complemented with photos, drawings, maps and excerpts from letters and news articles of the day. In its second printing, copies are still available by contacting Martin or the Warren County Historical Society. Sugar Grove Library has a copy in its collection.

Following the guest speaker, LitWit members each shared their personal favorite cookbooks. It was a night for history as the cookbooks were dated from the late 1800s to a brand new chocolate publication. Mandy Kellogg shared a magazine article which noted that vintage church and community cookbooks are very popular collector items currently.

Lynn Allen served Hummingbird Cake and stated the recipe came from a favored publication and has a mysterious history of its own. Bev Carlberg provided various teas and grape juice. The Club will meet February 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sugar Grove Library to review How Dare the Sun Rise, by Sandra Uwiringiyimana. Barb Kane will lead the discussion on that date. Anyone wishing to participate is welcome. Copies of the book are available at the library throughout the month.
