14 new cases reported in Warren County

Warren County ended 2020 on a positive note in terms of new COVID-19 cases.

There were 14 new cases reported in the county on Thursday, the lowest increase in two weeks.

The total continues what seems to be a drop in the number of new cases following the surge that started in late November.

The last time the number of new cases was lower for a day was Friday, Dec. 18, when there were 12. The last time there was a single-digit increase was Tuesday, Nov. 24.

As of Thursday, the county’s running total was 1,474, with 1,219 confirmed cases and 255 probables.

There had been 333 cases in the county as of Dec. 2. The state considers positive cases that do not result in deaths to be recovered after 30 days. As of Monday, there were 1,141 cases at 30 days or less.

December’s total of 1,171 is almost six times higher than the next month in terms of new cases. There were 196 new cases in November.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health did not add any new COVID-related deaths to the data on Thursday. That total remained at 26. That number is more than a week behind Warren County Coroner Melissa Zydonik’s. On Wednesday, Zydonik reported 42 COVID-related deaths, with 14 since Christmas Eve.

While the data indicates one more COVID-positive patient at Warren General Hospital, the patients are apparently in less serious circumstances. According to the department’s report, there were 23 patients, two of them using ventilators, and none in intensive care. Wednesday’s report showed 22 patients, two of them on ventilators, and five in ICU.

The county’s case rate stood at 3,731.8 per 100,000 population.
