Inmate charged for bringing meth into jail

A McKean County woman has been charged for allegedly bringing methamphetamine into the Warren County Jail.

Patricia R. Bynum, 34, of Kane, faces two counts of contraband.

According to police, corrections officers found a baggie containing suspected methamphetamine stuck to Bynum’s thigh during the intake process at about 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. Corrections officers then conducted a “live scan,” according to police.

The body scanner picked up a foreign object, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

“Officers observed the body scan and believe the foreign object to be drug-related and concealed in her person,” according to the affidavit. “The foreign object appears to be a cylindrical object, believed to be a smoking device or container used to store drugs.”

Officers applied for and were granted a search warrant, police said.

“Officers took the search warrant to Warren General Hospital and attempted to have the emergency room doctor retrieve the item or items, however, he refused,” according to the affidavit.

Police said Bynum was under constant supervision for days.

Police checked with jail personnel on Sept. 28 and were told the item had not been turned in, according to the affidavit. “Warren County Jail staff again requested that Bynum to another body scan… she physically refused.”

“Bynum later removed said foreign object herself and surrendered a bag of unknown drugs/paraphernalia to corrections officers,” according to police.
