Mom who threatened to kill daughter over shampoo, towel gets jail sentence

A Youngsville woman who threatened to kill her daughter over not bringing shampoo and a towel to her in the shower will spend a total of 10 months in county prison.

Judge Gregory Hammond handed down the sentence against Chrystal M. Duckworth, 34, on Friday.

After her counsel detailed that she has moved to Marienville, District Attorney Rob Greene said she needed another address change — to state prison.

He detailed that the victim, then 11 years old, was dragged on the stairs with threats to break her arm and kill her.

He said state prison is “where she belongs.”

Duckworth said she didn’t remember the day and “can’t make enough apologies.

“I need help,” she said, crying.

Hammond said the effects on the victim are “heartbreaking” — that she was dragged by her hair, had her face slammed on the floor and that Duckworth threatened to break her arm and kill her because the daughter didn’t bring Duckworth shampoo and a towel to her while in the shower.

He said he is glad to see her kids are safe out of state.

Hammond then sentenced her to 10 months to two years less one day incarceration with credit for 94 days time served, submission of a DNA sample, 50 hours community service, $875 in fines and fees, mental health and drug and alcohol evaluations and compliance with recommendations on a count of terroristic threats.

Hammond said she was not to have contact with the victim unless a court visitation or child protective services entity approved.

He then sentenced her to an additional $300 fine on a count of harassment.
