Youngsville Life: Youngsville Love Your Library fundraiser continues through March 31

The Youngsville Public Library’s annual spring fundraiser giveaway is happening through March 31 with 11 themed-options each at a value of $100 or more.

For a $5 donation supporters receive five tickets to use towards the gift-card, cash and lottery themed options of your choice. Basket details are available at youngsvillelibrary.org and on the library’s Facebook page.

Participation options are:

¯ mail-in “Raffle Request Forms” are available from YoungsvilleLibrary.org, at the Youngsville Borough office or at Genuine Jerky,

¯ chances at Valley Bowling are available through Sunday,

¯ Friends of YPL will be at Station 61 on Friday, March 17, from 4 to 7 p.m.

¯ during library business hours or from Youngsville Public Library staff, board or Friends of YPL members.

Winners will be contacted by phone, end of business day on March 31. All proceeds directly benefit Youngsville Public Library.

Library Workshops

Free computer basics workshop: Wednesady from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. there will be a free computer basics workshop. The session is an open session to answer questions and to learn how to navigate through basic systems, including the desktop environment, internet searching and emailing. Free SkillUp PA training: Learn how to access the over 6,000 free training and personal betterment classes that are available through the free SkillUP PA data base that is free to all PA residents. On Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Dani Ditz from PACareerLink will be available to provide an overview of SkillUP PA and help log on and navigate the site. Job Search Q&a session: Those nterested in receiving job training, looking for a new or better job can visit the Youngsville Public Library on Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for an open question-and-answer job search session. The session is an opportunity to get some personalized, one-on-one help with employment questions and also how to access the PACareerLInk site. Walk-ins welcome. LENTEN ACTIVITIES

Lent Services: The following is the 2023 Lenten Service Schedule for the Youngsville Area Ministries. All services are on a Wednesday and begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. Services on March 8 will be at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, followed by Otterbein United Methodist Church on March 15, Youngsville Free Methodist Church, on March 22, Saron Lutheran Church on March 29 and Irvine Presbyterian Church on April 5.

Lent Fish Fry: The Youngsville Free Methodist Church, 179 Davis St., will be serving fish fry dinners each Friday during Lent from 5 to 7 p.m. through April 1. The cost is $13 per dinner and includes fish, choice of potato, choice of coleslaw or applesauce, roll, and beverage. Take-out is available.

FUNDRAISERS

Bingo: Monday is bingo night at the Garland Fire Hall. Doors open at 4 p.m. Bingo starts at 6 p.m. The cost is $35 for all-you-can-play, which includes lucky number, and pays $400. The kitchen opens at 4 p.m. Bingo is open to the public.

Spaghetti Lunch: Saturday, March 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a spaghetti lunch fundraiser at the Youngsville Evangelical United Methodist Church, 18 Second St., sponsored by the Allegheny Faith Riders, a local chapter of CMA. Donations will help support the Outreach Ministries of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. Both eat-in and take-out options are available.

CHAPMAN PARK

PROGRAMS

¯ Today from 6 to 7 p.m., join the park educator for an owl prowl. Participants will meet at the amphitheater for a brief presentation on Pennsylvania’s owls, then go on a night hike to listen and hopefully see some of these incredible birds of prey. The group will be hiking the Nature Trail, a relatively flat trail no longer than 2 miles. Bring a flashlight, dress for the weather, and wear appropriate footwear.

¯ Saturday, March 10 from 6 to 7 p.m., join an amphibian hunt. Join the environmental educator on an amphibian adventure learning all about the frogs, toads, and salamanders that call Pennsylvania home. Wear boots because the group will be searching for amphibians after a short lecture. Participants should meet at the amphitheater first for the lecture. Dress appropriately for the weather and please bring a flashlight or a headlamp for this evening program.

¯ Saturday, March 25 from 3 to 4 p.m., the park will host a spring scavenger hunt and hike. Longer and warmer days mean birds are beginning to sing, frogs are croaking, and wildflowers are starting to bloom. Join the park educator on a guided hike along the Nature Trail to search for signs of spring and more. Participants are to meet at the amphitheater before heading out on the trail. Dress appropriately for the weather. There will be a one-mile hike on mostly flat terrain.

¯ Friday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to noon, join park staff and special guest Bill McClintock for a lesson on how to make an inline spinner and how to tie common fishing knots. The program is best suited for children and families. All materials will be provided. Materials are limited so pre-register via Facebook or the Chapman State Park- DCNR Calendar of events. PROGRAMS

Astronomy Club: Those interested in astronomy can join the PA Wilds Astronomy Club. The club will be providing education and outreach for the Pennsylvania Wilds. The group started in 2022 and is looking for new members. Members of all skill levels are welcome. Visit Home-Pennsylvania Wilds Astronomy Club (pawildsastro.org) to learn more or to sign up.

Warren Founder’s Day: The Warren County Historical Society commemorates Warren’s Founders’ Day on Tuesday, April 18. From April 3 through April 19, there will be a Warren Founders’ Day Exhibit on display at the Warren County Historical Society (210 Fourth Ave, Warren). The display will include antique land surveying equipment and charts, early maps of Northwestern PA, maps drawn for the French explorer Celoron de Blainville in 1749, portraits and sketches of Warren’s early surveyors, journals of the explores and more. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There is also a Founder’s Day fundraiser sponsored by the Warren County Historical Society Board of Directors. Tickets are $5 each and available now at the Historical Society. The drawing will be held on April 18 at 4 p.m. First prize is $500 cash, second prize is indoor/outdoor golf package, third prize is a date dinner package, fourth prize is a live music package, fifth prize is a “Foodies & Festivities” package, sixth prize is “Tisket-a-tasket” with three baskets, and seventh prize is a “Git-R-Done” package. Seniors Safe Driving Course: The Allegheny Community Center (42 Clark St., Warren) is hosting a “Seniors for Safe Driving” course on Monday, April 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. Registration is required, tuition is $16. No exam will be given. Course benefits upon completion include a minimum 5% discount on auto insurance premiums for three years as mandated by PA State Law.
