Two weeks remain for Youngsville Public Library’s Love Your Library fundraiser

There’s two weeks left for Youngsville Library’s “Love Your Library” fundraiser.

The drawing date is Friday, March 31. Winners will be contacted by phone, listed in the Times Observer, and on the library’s website and Facebook page. All proceeds directly benefit the Youngsville Public Library. There are 11 themed-options each at a value of $100 or more. A $5 donation buys five tickets to use toward gift card, cash, and lottery-themed baskets.

The 11 themed “Love Your Library” choices are:

¯ “Dinner & a Movie”: $50 Dipson Theater gift cards, $50 cash;

¯ “Keep on Scratching”: $100 in scratch off lottery tickets;

¯ “Good Eats”: $25 Applebee’s, $20 Ida Mae’s (in Russell), $30 Mama Janes, $20 Ribs-n-Bones, $10 cash;

¯ “Got Ya Covered”: $100 Carter Lumber Gift Card;

¯ “From Outdoor needs to Indoor Fun”: $100 KAM’s logging supplies and outdoor wear,

¯ “Let’s go Shopping”: $50 Walmart card, $25 Tops Markets card, $25 cash;

¯ “You Name It, We Got It”: $100 Youngsville Hardware,

¯ “Cold Cash”: $100 bill,

¯”Yngs Food & Bev”: $50 Lonnie’s Pizza, $25 Huey’s Restaurant, $25 cash; and

¯ “Yngs Food & More”: $30 Dairy Queen card, $50 Genuine Jerky, $20 Outlet City/Simple Dick’s.

Each gift card was donated by the merchant and the $100 bill for “Cold Cash” was provided by Scott Olewine of Olewine Financial Group in Warren; all other items are sponsored by the Friends of the Youngsville Library. New donors have been added, including Youngsville Hardware, KAM’s, Youngsville Homebrews, Ribs-n-Bones, and Ida Mae’s.

To participate, mail-in “Raffle Request Forms” from the library’s website at youngsvillelibrary.org, pick up a mail-in form at the Youngsville Borough Office or at Genuine Jerky, or visit the library during business hours or contact library staff, board or Friends of YPL members.

LIBRARY EVENTS

Canva Class: Don’t have experience in graphic design but need to create a flyer for an organization or create a social media ad in a jiffy? No problem. Canva will help create something in a matter of minutes. Canva is a graphic design platform that allows users to create social media images, fliers, posters, website images, presentations and more. Canva also integrates millions of images, fonts, templates, and illustrations to your graphic making it look professionally done. The Canva platform is free to use. Tuesday, April 11, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. the Youngsville Public Library (100 Broad St.) will be the site for a Canva Basics class. Those attending will learn how to basic tips and tricks to designing professional quality graphics.

The class is being presented by Hi-Ed of Warren but hosted by Youngsville Library. The cost to attend the class is $19. Registration is through Hi-Ed by callin 814-723-3222, registering through the Hi-Ed website or access the Youngsville Library Canva registration page on the homepage of the library’s webpage at youngsvillelibrary.org. Library circulation desk staff can also help register during regular business hours.

Free Job Seeking And Resiliency Class: Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. there will be a free “Job Seeking & Resiliency: What comes next” workshop at the Youngsville Library. The workshop will include topics ranging from job seeking tips and tricks to budgeting hacks and everything in between. Walk-ins are welcome but pre-registration is appreciated. ¯ Free Financial Literacy Workshop: Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Youngsville Library there will be a free financial literacy workshop. Topics covered include saving for retirement, taxes, managing credit cards, and other similar topics. This is a casual workshop were personal questions are welcomed and encouraged. ¯ Job Search Q &A Session: Those interested in receiving job training or who are looking for a new or better job can stop by the Youngsville Library on Wednesday anytime from noon to 1 p.m. for an open question-and-answer job search session. This is an opportunity to get some personalized, one-on-one help with employment questions and also how to access the PACareerLInk site. Walk-ins welcome. BOROUGH NEWS

Cemetery Association: The Youngsville Cemetery Association is requesting all decorations, winter and leftover summer items, please be removed by Saturday, April 1. The association is also looking for volunteers and possibly one paid position for help with summer maintenance. Contact Randy McKinney at 814-563-9904.

Borough Resident Records: The borough is working on updating records for residents who live or own property within the borough. Contact the Boro Office to verify that the phone number that is on file with an account is correct during office hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

FUNDRAISERS

Chicken & Biscuit Dinner: Sunday, April 2, Boy Scout Troop 22 will be having a chicken and biscuit dinner fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or sold out at the Irvine Presbyterian Church (885 National Forge Road, Irvine, 16329). Eat in or take out orders are available. The cost is a $7 donation. Donations benefit scout camp.

Spring Fun Auction: Irvine Presbyterian Church’s Spring Fun Auction will be held on Sunday, March 26, starting at 1 p.m. (885 National Forge Road, Irvine). The auction is open to the public. Food will be available for purchase during the event. Items to be auctioned include themed baskets, lotter tickets, mystery items, homemade pierogies, baked goods, crafts, and much more.

“Egg Your Yard” Fundraiser: Family Services of Warren County is having its third annual “Let Us Egg Your Yard” fundraising event. The staff of Family Services Inc. will fill plastic Easter eggs full of candy, stickers, small toys, etc. and will deliver and hide the eggs in a yard the evening before Easter (Saturday, April 8, around dusk). Children will wake up to a magical egg hunt to start off Easter morning. All orders must be pre-paid by cash, check or venmo by Friday, March 31, at 1 p.m. Available in Warren County and some surrounding areas. Venmo: @FamilyServices1330. The cost for 30 eggs is a $25 donation, 50 eggs for a $40 donation, or 100 eggs for $75. Family Services of Warren County is a trauma informed nonprofit behavioral health organization that provides assessments, counseling, substance abuse services, and support groups for people in and around Warren County. Youngsville High School Golf Scramble: The Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship Fund’s annual four-person golf scramble is Saturday, May 13, at Jackson Valley Golf Club. The entry fee is $260 per team and includes green fees, cart rental, lunch, prizes and donation. Spaghetti Lunch: Today from11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a spaghetti lunch fundraiser at the Youngsville Evangelical U.M.C. (18 Second St.), sponsored by the Allegheny Faith Riders (a local chapter of CMA). Donations will help support the Outreach Ministries of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. Both eat-in and take-out options are available.

SCHOLARSHIP

APPLICATIONS

YHS Scholarships: The YHS Alumni Scholarship Fund will be awarding scholarships to qualifying seniors at graduation in June 2023.

Each scholarship will be for a minimum amount of $1,000 and will be paid to the school of the senior upon completion of his/her first semester or term at a college, university, or technical school. The application must be completed and submitted to the Guidance Counselor no later than May 1. The application form, scholarship eligibility rules, and basis for award information is available at the YHS Guidance office and on the Warren County School District website at www.wcsdpa.org. Go to the schools tab and select Youngsville High School to find the application information.

A committee of members of the Alumni Scholarship Committee will review all applications and make the determination on the award recipients. The YHS Alumni Scholarship Fund was established in 1985 by members from the Class of 1950. This fund has awarded $184,000 in scholarships. YHS Alumni Scholarship Fund Board of Trustees and committee members wants to make sure all seniors are aware of the scholarship and encourage them to apply by May 1st. This is a unique scholarship in Warren County funded by YHS Alumni and other contributors and specifically for Youngsville High School students.

CHAPMAN PARK PROGRAMS

Saturday, March 25 from 3 to 4 p.m., a Spring Scavenger Hunt and Hike will be held. Join the park educator on a guided hike along the Nature Trail to search for signs of spring and more. Participants are to meet at the amphitheater before heading out on the trail. Dress appropriately for the weather. There will be a one-mile hike on mostly flat terrain.

Friday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to noon the park will host a do-it-yourself fishing lures workshop. Pre-registration is required. Join park staff and special guest Bill McClintock for a lesson on how to make an inline spinner and how to tie common fishing knots. The program is best suited for children and families. All materials will be provided. Materials are limited so pre-register for the program via Facebook or the Chapman State Park- DCNR Calendar of events.
