The Silver Winds Flute Choir will present a free concert — Season of Celebrations — at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church in Warren.

“The program includes classical, popular, and modern selections including Flourishes by Kathy Farmer to mark the end of summer, America the Beautiful to celebrate Labor Day, and themes from Vivaldi’s Autumn to commemorate fall,” according to Choir Coordinator Becky Darbee. “Gounod’s Funeral March of the Marionettes is reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock’s spooky stories — it helps us celebrate Halloween. Additionally, the program celebrates veterans with a set of tunes from the Navy, Army Air Force and Marines.”

“As autumn quickly passes, there is a celebration of Thanksgiving with Catherine McMichael’s The Pilgrim,” she said. “This quickly leads to thoughts of winter. Let it Snow, Snowdrops, and Jingle Bell Jazz evoke images of snow and crisp days.”

“The winter holidays of Chanukah and Christmas will be celebrated through Chanukah Suite 1 and 2, Christmas Overture, Silent Night and other traditional carols – It came upon a Midnight Clear, What Child Is This?, and We Three Kings,” Darbee said. “The program ends with the always uplifting Let There be Peace on Earth.”

“We are excited to perform this program which celebrates the many holidays that occur from the end of summer through the New Year,” Darbee said. “When you look closely, you’ll discover that there is likely a celebration for every day in every season. So, though we edited our choices, we are celebrating every day as a holiday.”

Seven flutists from the Warren County area and the region make up the Silver Winds.

Current members include Becky Darbee, Pat Murphy, Jessalyn Peterson-Palmer, Ellen Scalise, Nancy Scott, Laura Whitten, and Deena Winters

The members perform using C-flute, piccolo, alto, and bass flute. Those interested in more information may call Darbee at (814) 688-2054.
