5K in Corry set for Oct. 8

A Running to Win 5K event will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, in Corry. The race will begin and end at Mead Park and loop around the city. All proceeds will benefit Children’s Rescue Initiative, an organization based out of Conneaut Lake that fights to stop human trafficking and save child victims from helpless situations. For registration, T-shirt sales and more information, prospective participants are encouraged to visit getmeregistered.com/RunningToWin5k as well as facebook.com/RunningToWin5k. Same-day registration is available for a cost of $25. T-shirts are available for purchase for $15. Race-day sign-ups begin at 7:30 a.m., and kids under 3 can participate for free; wagons, strollers and baby carriers are welcome. The race begins at 9 a.m.

Blood drive planned at WGH

As regional blood supplies remain severely low, Community Blood Bank of Northwestern Pennsylvania will hold a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Warren General Hospital. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged and may be made by calling (814) 456-4206.

Sheffield Library programs

The Sheffield Library has upcoming programs to highlight. Weekly story time is back with two options to choose from: Preschool Storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 2-6 and Wee Readers on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for our youngest visitors up to 2 years old. A book Club — “Made Into Movies” also meets monthly at 5 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is Oct. 26. The group will explore books that have been made into movies. Copies of both the book and the movie will be supplied through interlibrary loan, so participants do not need to purchase them. October’s title is Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. Stop by the Library or call to reserve a copy of the book and/or movie. The Library is located at 20 Leather Street in Sheffield. Antique gun display

The Wilder Museum in Irvine will present an Antique Gun Display with a special collection by Brad Bogart on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Bogart’s historic assortment of arms includes, Revolutionary War Arms, French and Indian War Arms, Kentucky rifles, powder horns, knives and tomahawks. The event will take place in the Era-Gone-By Room which houses the Joseph DeFrees Antique Gun Collection and includes, French dueling pistols, a Blunderbuss, Winchester rifles and more. The event is free and open to the public.
