Matthews Run Road paving project to start Monday

A 6.55-mile repaving project on Route 27 is set to commence on Monday.

PennDOT says milling will start on Monday for the project that will cover Matthews Run Road from the intersection of Ninth Street in Youngsville to the intersection with Jackson Run Road.

Improvements will include “complete shoulder widening, paving and minor drainage improvements” as well as paving.

No detours will be required as part of the effort.

“Motorists may encounter lane restrictions controlled by flaggers,” PennDOT said. “Drivers should be alert for changing traffic patterns.

The project will also include the replacement of a near-century old bridge.

It’s the bridge over Telic Run located between Telic Run Road and Murray Hill Road.

“The existing bridge was built in 1928,” according to PennDOT. “It is classified as poor condition and has a posted weight limit…. Approximately 1,700 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.”

During its replacement, traffic will be controlled through the use of a temporary traffic signal.

PennDOT says the work is expected to be completed by November and comes at a cost of $3.7 million.
