Chapman readies for Night Sky program

Chapman State Park is in prime astronomy territory.

“We have little light pollution and great areas to view the sky,” Environmental Educator Jen Moore said.

The park and Martz Observatory are teaming up to utilize those conditions to hold another Drive-In Night Sky Program from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 22.

If conditions are good, all of the inner planets – Mercury, Venus and Mars – will be visible. Martz Observatory Project Director Tom Traub will guide visitors through the essentials of stargazing and point out the astronomical points of interest.

The program is limited to 35 participants.

Participants are asked to bring binoculars or a telescope, a flashlight, and a blanket or chair.

Social distancing will be maintained and participants must have masks.

Those interested in signing up may contact Moore at (814) 723-0259 or jennmoore@pa.gov by May 14 to register.
