Nature journaling to be held at Audubon

The Audubon Community Nature Center is offering a virtual Nature Journaling for Beginners class on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Audubon Community Nature Center has begun a Virtual Cabin Fever series of programs designed to share an appreciation of the natural world, inspire people to get outside or teach a skill to use in outside adventures.

Virtual Nature Journaling for Beginners is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Nature journaling is the practice of drawing or writing in response to nature. It is a way to look closer at the natural world, document explorations and improve identification and understanding of plants and animals can also be intimidating, especially if one does not consider themselves to be an artist. Virtual Nature Journaling for Beginners is an opportunity to learn some tips and tricks and other features of a nature journal.

Pretty pictures are not required. All one needs to have is a piece of blank paper, writing utensil(s) of choice and a leaf.

Participation is $8 for adults, $6 for Nature Center members and children ages 3 to 15, and free for children two and under. Reservations are required by an hour before the program begins.

To register, go to AudubonCNC.org and click on “Register for a Program.” A Zoom link will be included in the receipt.

The Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. The first floor of the Nature Center building, including the Blue Heron Gift Shop, live animals, and the 2020 Nature Photography Contest winning photographs, is open Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Because not all of the building is accessible, admission is by donation only.

Visitors are welcome to visit the 600-acre nature preserve from dawn to dusk daily.

While practicing safe social distancing measures, walk the grounds and six miles of trails, and view Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable Bald Eagle.
