Senior centers close due to COVID-19 but meals still available

Warren County’s senior centers have closed through at least next Jan. 11.

“Due to the rapidly rising rates of COVID-19 in our area, Experience Inc., the Warren/Forest Area Agency on Aging, has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all in-person dining and activities at area senior centers starting Monday, November 30,” Danell Sowers, executive director said.

“Meals will still be offered,” she emphasized. “The meals will be ordered in the same manner as participants currently order them; however, each meal will be served in a takeout container.”

The closure impacts the Allegheny Community Center in Warren as well as senior centers in Tidioute, Endeavor and Marienville.

“Although it is an independent center,” Sowers said, “the Sheffield Hospitality House has informed us they will follow the same guidelines.”

The closure will remain in place through July 11 at which point “Experience, Inc. will reevaluate the COVID-19 data and decide if it will be safe to reopen the senior centers and main office building,” Sowers said.

“We work with a vulnerable population and we will always work to put the health and safety of older adults at the forefront of our decision making.”

The main office on Fourth Ave. will remain open by appointment only and is available at 723-3763 and questions about the closure can be directed to the local centers.
