A Warren woman has been charged after allegedly threatening a woman with a hatchet.

Cheryl L. Baker, 68, of Warren, is charged with terroristic threats; simple assault; harassment; and disorderly conduct.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, an alleged victim contacted Conewango Township Police on Monday, Nov. 16, regarding a road rage incident.

Police said the woman said she had noticed a vehicle tailgating her from Route 62 into Warren Commons.

When she parked her car, she saw the car park behind hers, according to the affidavit.

She told police a passenger got out of the vehicle and confronted her — “scolded (her) and yelled at her for her driving ability.”

That passenger returned to the vehicle and another the driver, Baker, got out of the car and approached, according to the affidavit.

Baker “walked over to (the alleged victim’s) vehicle when (she) was attempting to back up and yelled… ‘run me over…'” repeatedly, according to the affidavit.

The alleged victim put her vehicle in park and got out.

“Baker held a hatchet in her hand, holding it in front of” the alleged victim, “within arm’s length” and yelled “you don’t know who you’re messing with,” according to the affidavit.

Baker threatened the alleged victim and threatened to damage her car with the hatchet, according to the affidavit.

The alleged victim then walked into Walmart, according to the affidavit.

Police examined surveillance videos in the area and said they corroborate the alleged victim’s story.

Police later spoke with Baker at her home, according to the affidavit.

“Baker stated that she was cut off by” the woman “while traveling north on Route 62 prior to Walmart and followed” her “to where she parked,” according to the affidavit.

“She also stated that she did retrieve a small axe, hatchet, from her vehicle prior to approaching” the woman “and had it in her hand when she confronted her.”

Baker told police she threw away the hatchet after the confrontation, according to the affidavit, “as she knew she shouldn’t have used it.”
