Allegheny National Forest will have commenting period open

BRADFORD. — The Allegheny National Forest will have a commenting period open for a series of proposed activities that will help improve wildlife habitat on the forest.

The proposed actions, which are in support of forest management plan objectives, are:

¯ Aspen regeneration

¯ Daylighting rock outcrops and boulder fields

¯ Apple, fruit, and mast shrub tree pruning and release.

Forest officials said the actions will help maintain a diversity of habitats for a variety of mammals, birds, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians. The proposed work will occur in several areas throughout the Bradford Ranger District.

The Forest Service is inviting public comment on these proposed actions. Comments may be sent by mail to Bradford District Ranger Rich Hatfield, Allegheny National Forest, 29 Forest Service Drive, Bradford, PA 16701; or email comments-eastern-allegheny-bradford@usda.gov.

Comments are most helpful if received before July 1.

For more information, call Steve Rutkowski, Bradford wildlife biologist, at 814-363-6071. For more information on the proposal visit www.fs.usda.gov/projects/allegheny/landmanagement/projects.
