City Spring Clean-Up kicks off April 13

It might seem like life as we know it has been upended, but spring is coming.

That means the City of Warren is preparing for the city’s annual Spring Clean-Up Program.

The program will kick off on April 13 and work through the city over the ensuing two weeks.

“Items and materials to be collected include leaves, hedge and brush clippings, tree limbs and branches,” according to a release from Department of Public Works Director Mike Holtz. “Lawn refuse must not be mixed with tree limbs and branches but should be placed in containers such as plastic bags or cardboard boxes.”

The city cautions that leaves should be “piled separately and not mixed with other material” and that “tree limbs and branches are to be piled separately with all ends cut in the same direction.”

Among the items that won’t be collected are stones, bricks, concrete, dirt or boards.

“Items to be collected should be placed near the curb or edge of street pavement, not within the street itself,” according to the city, “and should be set out for collection as close as possible to the appropriate collection day but no later than 7 a.m. of the day scheduled.”

The city acknowledges that “certain unanticipated circumstances” could delay the program, like last year when a tornado forced the city to revamp the schedule.

Here’s the planned schedule: April 13 – east city limit to Parker St.; April 14 — Parker St. to Irvine St.; April 15 — Irvine St. to Prospect St.; April 16 — west of Prospect St., south of E. Third Ave.; April 17 — E. Third Ave. to Frank St.; April 20 — Frank St. to Connecticut St.; April 21 — Connecticut St. to Quaker Hill Rd.; April 22 — Water St. to Hazel St.; April 23 — Hazel St. to west city limits; April 24 — Entire area south of the Allegheny River.
