Philomel Club offers music education scholarships

The Philomel Club of Warren is accepting applications for its annual scholarships for students in seventh grade and older who are studying with a private music instructor. Scholarships are also available for students pursuing continuing education in music beyond high school.

Letters of application should include general information about the applicant (name, address, phone number, age/year in school), instrument(s) played, musical goals and accomplishments, how the scholarship will help them, and private instructor’s name, address, and phone number.

College students should include the name of the school they are attending, their major and minor areas of study, instrument(s) played, musical goals and accomplishments, and how the scholarship will help them achieve their musical career.

Applications will be ranked according to the potential for dedication and success in a musical career or in music as a serious avocation.

Adults are also welcome to apply for scholarships for the advancement of their musical career.

Applications should be mailed to Rebecca Darbee, Philomel Scholarship Chairman, 542 Easy Street, Russell, PA 16365, or emailed to bradandrebecca2@verizon.net no later than Monday, April 15, 2019.

Barbara Baldwin DeFrees Music Scholarships

Applications for the Barbara Baldwin DeFrees Music Scholarships for the 2019-2020 academic year are now being accepted by the Community Foundation of Warren County.

Higher education music students in piano, string, woodwinds, or voice can apply for continuing education assistance.

Apply online at the Foundation website at cfowc.org (go to “Receive” then “Apply for Scholarships”). Applicants are encouraged to review the instructions first, print them out if they wish, and have a good idea of the work required before they start the application process.
