Blood Bank holding drive Aug. 22

Community Blood Bank holds blood drives at Warren County’s high schools a couple times a year.

In order to help students get back in the swing, and to give an infusion to the blood supply, CBB will hold its “High School Reunion” drive from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22

“We try to get the kids who donated during the year to come back,” Regional Mobile Coordinator Shari Jerman said. “We’re trying to build up the supply for the end of summer.”

Donors must be at least 16 years old to give. Those who are 16 must have a signed parental consent form. The form can be printed from the donation information section of the CBB website — fourhearts.org.

The blood bank is in need of all blood types, but there is a particular need for type O-negative. “We supply all the emergency helicopters” in the area, Jerman said. To save weight, those vehicles only stock O-negative, which can be given to any person in need of blood.

Those who give are eligible to enter for a chance to win a $5,000 Disney World package, Jerman said.

The drive is outside of CBB’s usual schedule to better coincide with the start of school, but it is not exclusively for students. Anyone who is eligible is welcome.

Appointments are not necessary.
