Photos submitted to Times Observer Participating in the Hunt Seat Division, Hailie Cass, will represent Warren County and her 4-H Horse club the Sanford Saddles & Spurs at the District VIII show in Centre Hall.

Warren County 4-H will have 36 members and 40 horses representing the county at the District VIII 4-H horse show set for September 8-9 in Centre Hall. The 4-H members will compete in a variety of classes in an effort to qualify for the state show. The Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show is set for October 27-29 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

This will be only the second year that Warren County 4-H members compete with District VIII. The district consists of Clearfield, Cameron, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, and Warren.

The following clubs and their members will be participating in the 2017 District VIII Horse Show: Kinzua RidgeRunners – Sam Borland, Melissa Burton, Leandra DeMarco, Sammi Hulings, Shelby Ordiway and Ava Whiteman; Pittsfield Bronc Busters – Maya Weis; Sanford Saddles & Spurs – Haile Cass, Salenah and Savannah Drake, Hailey Hammerschmidt, Bryceton Maille; Scandia TrailBlazers – Emily and Holly Allison, Gracie Anthony, Macey Eyler, Audrey Ferrie, Alexis Galloway, Dakota Hultberg, Hunter Peterson, Paige Pratt, Lydia Renninger, Rachael, Robert, and Sandra Richards, Kassidy Turner, and Brielle Whitney; Sugar Grove Ruff Riders – Katie Downs, Alex Hangge and Audrey Smith; and Sunset Bandits – Kaitlyn Coleson, Carlie Frost, Ava and Samantha Nyweide, Marie Slack, and Hialeah Stanton.

New in 2017 the Cloverbud classes were added to the Warren County 4-H Horse Show. The 4-H Cloverbud program is open to youth between the ages of 5-7 as of January 1. The members are eligible to show their animals with fellow cloverbud members but do not advance to the district show. This year Jon Hulings showed his sister’s horse Crow in the showmanship class and equitation class for his age group. Jon received a blue ribbon for both classes.

Many dedicated volunteers work throughout the year to teach members leadership, citizenship, and responsibility. The county qualifying show is just one activity of many that leaders dedicate their time and support to offer to the youth of the Warren County 4-H program. Without leaders, volunteers, and active parents the Warren County 4-H program would not be a success. Thank you to the many dedicated volunteers.

The 4-H program is a youth development program of Penn State Cooperative Extension. It is open to all youth between the ages of 8 and 18, without regard to ancestry, color, disability or handicap, national origin, race, religious creed, sex, sexual orientation, or place of residence.
