Garden Club invites community to Arbor Day Celebration April 29

Warren Garden Club invites the City of Warren to its annual Arbor Day Celebration, Saturday, April 29. The City of Warren is an American Tree City and we love our trees.

A beautiful River Birch, purchased by Warren Garden Club, has already been planted at the west end of Crescent Park across from the Cancer Center and at the site of the April 29, 2017 Arbor Day celebration. Refreshments will be served.

Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. As a formal holiday, it was first observed in 1872, in Nebraska, but tree planting festivals are as old as time. The tree has appeared throughout history and literature as the symbol of life.

Most holidays celebrate something that has already happened. Arbor Day reflects a hope for the future. We plant our river birch for future generations believing that it will grow and provide habitat for wildlife, shelter from sun and inspiration for future generations.

Saturday, April 29, all are invited to the west end of Crescent Park to welcome Warren Garden Club’s new river birch to the arboretum. Penn State Extension Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer gardening questions and with information on the Penn State Extension Master Gardener program. We also need to honor and remember J. Sterling Morton the man who encouraged the planting of trees and the celebration of Arbor Day, who asked us to remember “Each generation takes the earth as trustees.”
