Entrelac knitting technique detailed by Fiber Artists

Photo submitted to Times Observer Pictured here are Phyllis O’Neill, who presented a program on the Entrelac knitting technique to the Warren County Fiber Artists, and Shirley Richards, who presented the afghan she made to the club to be used for charity.

The Warren County Fiber Artists met at the Warren Public Library on Feb. 7. The club welcomed Shirley Richards, who presented to the club an afghan that she has been working on for the past few months, to use for charity. The club decided to donate it to The Crossing for a fundraiser that they have later on in the year. The WCFA thanks Olivia Sechriest for coordinating the project.

The program for the evening was presented by Phyllis O’Neill on the Entrelac knitting technique. Phyllis was the former owner of the Yarn Basket yarn shop and has been an encyclopedia of knowledge for the club members.

Each month the members do a show and tell of projects they have been working on and problems that other members can give advice to help solve. These topics often lead to classes that will be held at the club’s Kinzua Knit-Away. The next Knit-Away will be in the spring of 2018 rather than the fall of 2017. The public as well as club membership are reminded to mark their 2018 calendar with April 6 and 7 at the First United Methodist Church for the next Kinzua Knit-Away educational conference and vendor exhibit.

More information can be obtained from the internet at http://kinzuaknitaway.com and on Facebook or Ravelry.com.

The Warren County Fiber Artists will be manning a table at the Warren County Fair to promote the fiber arts as a craft in which people might be interested in participating. The Warren County Fair will be held August 8-12, 2017, at the fairgrounds in Pittsfield. Members interested in participating in these demonstrations should contact Pam Mahan.

The club will be celebrating World Wide Knit in Public Day on June 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.in the Warren Public Library front yard.

The Warren County Fiber Artists meet at the Warren Public Library the first Tuesday of the month from September through May. Men and women interested in fiber arts are invited to attend. March meeting’s topic will be the Tartan Plaid technique with presenter Barb Tracey. The topic of the April meeting will be on knitted toys by Rhonda Bish and the May meeting will be a challenge to knit, crochet or weave with non-traditional matter. Those who accept the challenge will receive a small prize.
