ANF closings Thursday

All three Allegheny National Forest offices will be closed for most of the day on Thursday, February 23 to allow employees to attend forest-wide training.

The offices will reopen as follows:

Supervisor’s Office will reopen at 1:30 p.m.

Bradford Ranger District will reopen at 2:00 p.m.

Marienville Ranger District will reopen at 2:00 p.m.

County meetings canceled

Thursday’s county Blighted Property Review Committee meeting has been cancelled.

Chicken and biscuits

The Russell United Methodist Church is hosting a chicken and biscuits Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at its ministry center, 19 North Main Street, Russell. Cost of the dinner is donations only, and all generous proceeds received from this fundraiser will be given in support of the Jamestown Jackals men’s semi-pro basketball team. This team is locally owned by #IntegrityFirst, Inc. — a Christian-based organization dedicated to helping these young men on their life’s journey. Russell UMC is proud to be one of the sponsors of the Jamestown Jackals. Call the church office (757-8493) for more information about the event.

ReStore donations

Habitat for Humanity of Warren County’s ReStore is operating from the basement of Second Avenue Exchange, located at 306 Second Avenue in Warren. Habitat will accept donations at that location only on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 10 am to noon. The next dropoff dates are February 25 and March 11. Please do not leave items outside of those hours. Habitat reserves the right to deny any item based on its potential resale value and / or usefulness to the organization. Community dinner

Community Dinner at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church is set for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15. Menu is salisbury steak, garlic butter noodles, green beans and dessert.

AOC event planned

On Sunday, Feb. 19, the Allegheny Outdoor Club will ski or hike four miles on the Toms Run Trail at Hearts Content on the Allegheny National Forest. These four scholarships are $1,000 each, and are merit-based awards for post high school education. All Warren County citizens are eligible.  The form for application is available on the website of the Woman's Club at www.warrenwomansclub.org, or the guidance offices of all county high schools and Higher Ed office.  Applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2017. These scholarships are funded by the generosity of the Woman's Club and the club's supporters.
